A COMMUNITY CIRCLE TO TEND OUR GRIEF
15th April 2026 18.30-20.00 SAST/17.30-19.00 UK
There is a great deal of grief moving through the world right now.
Some of it is personal: the losses we carry in our own lives.
Some of it is collective: grief for the earth, for the unravelling of systems we once believed were stable, for what we were told of who we are and how the world works.
And for many there is a deeper grief: for the realisation of how profoundly we have been separated – from land, from lineage, from community and from ways of being that held us in right relationship with each other and with a living, aninmate world.
Yet in the culture many of us inherited, grief has very little space. We are encouraged to move on quickly, to ‘stay positive’, to ‘carry on’.
But grief is not a problem to solve, and for most of human history, grief was not carried alone. It was held in community, in circle and ritual and song, where people could gather, speak honestly, listen deeply, and remember that they belong.
This Living Ancestors gathering is an invitation to return to something of that. A gentle, held space to acknowledge what we are carrying, personally and collectively, and to tend grief together in community.
There is no pressure to speak. Listening and quiet presence are equally welcome.
Come exactly as you are, and remember you do not have to hold this moment alone.
What to expect :
We will begin with a short meditation and a simple prayer to the ancestors – a remembering that we are part of a larger story than this moment.
There will be space for:
- journalling
- quiet reflection
- listening and witnessing
- being in shared humanity
What you will need:
- A quiet, cosy space where you will be uninterrupted
- A journal and a pen
- Cacao, tea, water – whatever feels right for you
- Optional: light a candle and take 10 minutes to arrive before we begin
The Spirit of the Offering
This gathering is a gift to the field – a seed planted to remember what it means to be Living Ancestors:
- To hold our past with curiosity, courage and compassion
- To meet the present with gratitude, grace and generosity
- To shape a future that is just, regenerative, and beautiful for all
