Living Ancestors is a global initiative, founded by Kate Frew Austin and rooted in South Africa, a beautiful and complex land where vast wealth and vast inequality exist side by side.

The work of Living Ancestors is a deep inquiry around wealth, legacy, and the stewardship of resources, asking us to remember the interconnectedness of wealth, the health of our planet, and the future of generations to come.

Living Ancestors invites us to step outside the dominant story of separation and remember ourselves as connected strands in a larger web of life. We create spaces for experiences, gatherings and conversations where we recognise the limitations of our inherited concepts of wealth, success and security, and explore and remember what it means to live in right relationship – with ourselves, with one another and with the living world. From here, new possibilities emerge for how we understand and steward the resources we are entrusted with, in service of the healing and regeneration of the Earth and of creating a future worth inheriting.

Generational Wealth To Relational Wealth

Our cultural narrative of wealth has long been one of extraction, accumulation and inheritance, shaped by the story of separation: holding enough to secure ourselves and our descendants against a future we are told is precarious.

But what if we remembered that we are not separate? What if we remembered what it is to be in relationship – to the Earth and to each other – and understood true prosperity not as what we own, but as the quality and health of our connections, communities and ecosystems? What if wealth is inextricably entwined with relationship?

Relational wealth asks: How does my personal prosperity contribute to creating a more beautiful future for all?
